Christmas Delivery

Bikes

Our last day for dispatch is Thursday the 22nd of December. We use a next day/express courier for bikes, such as DPD or TNT/Fedex. All couriers are experiencing some delays at the moment so nothing is guaranteed, but these services are intended as a next day service and have been largely delivering as such.

If a bike is ordered before 12pm, we will do our very best to dispatch it on the same day. Again, this is not a guarantee, but we will do our best! If we can't dispatch on the same day, we will dispatch the next working day. Please bear in mind that we are closed on Wednesdays, so no orders are processed or dispatched on those days.

We fully assemble your bike before delivery as though you were going to ride it away from the shop. To get it back into a box for the courier, there is some minor disassembly such as removing pedals and handlebars.

Smaller Items

For pre-Christmas we now strongly recommend you upgrade from our standard post (Royal Mail 48) to either Royal Mail 24 or DPD. Royal Mail have indicated that the last day for Royal Mail 24 should be the 16th, but even that is not guaranteed. To give the best chance of pre-Christmas delivery, we recommend selecting the DPD option.

If your item is in stock and ordered before 12pm, we will do our best to despatch your order the day you place it. Please bear in mind that we are closed on Wednesdays, so no orders are processed or dispatched on those days.

Delivery Information

UK Delivery

If your item is in stock and ordered before 12pm, we will do our best to despatch your order the day you place it. In busy times we tell you how long it will take us to process it.

The above does not apply to bikes, which we have to assemble and inspect before repacking for dispatch. Typically we try to have bike orders dispatched within 3-5 days, but in busier times it may take longer. In those cases we'll let you know of longer than expected delivery times.

Please bear in mind that we are closed on Wednesdays, so no items will be dispatched then.

Free Postage over £40 on small items

For small items we use Royal Mail's 48 service which has a delivery time of typically 2-3 days from dispatch; though you do have the option to upgrade to 24 which is generally next-day from dispatch if you require your order sooner. Please note in some cases the item will need to be signed for, so please provide an address where someone will be in.

Orders of over £40 will qualify for free standard postage with Royal Mail 48. This excludes certain bulky or awkward items (for example shoes and helmets) which will be calculated automatically at the basket screen. Unless stated otherwise, bikes also do not qualify for free postage. Please see below for details on that.

Bike Shipping

When we send out a larger parcel such as a bike or trailer we use a tracked courier such as TNT's next-day service.

For these reasons please supply us with a delivery address where there will be someone in to sign for your parcel. If there is nobody in when the couriers call, they will leave a card. You can then phone them to arrange delivery for another day or collect your goods from your local depot (a photo ID with proof of address will be required).

Outside the UK

Since Brexit it is no longer feasible for our website to have permanent shipping prices for international delivery. Instead, if there is an item you are interested in, please Contact Us with a full delivery address and we will quote for delivery.

All the prices on our website and catalogue are in pounds sterling and are inclusive of VAT, but VAT will be removed for international orders. Please bear in mind you will likely have to pay your country's taxes and import duties for any items.

You can use the click and collect option to place an order at any time, any day, before collecting from the store at a time that suits you.

How do you do it? It's simple. Add the items you want to your cart, and then select the **collect in store** option below once you're on the basket screen:

As soon as we're able we'll be in touch by phone or email to confirm with you when your items are available to collect. This could be practically instant, or it could take a few hours/days depending on the item.

Once you're ready to collect your items, please bring your confirmation email with you (stored on a smartphone or printed), along with proof of ID (passport or driving license) and the card used to purchase.

Company History

Cyclesense was born in 1991, fulfilling the childhood dream of David Stainthorpe. Dave had always wanted a bike shop, as a child he used to take bikes apart, swap bits and sell them to his friends. Slowly, but surely, Dave built the business up starting in his garage at home in Thorner and trading on Dewsbury Market with just £600 worth of stock. By 1995 Cyclesense had become very well established. Its reputation built on value and service. The markets were very cold so Dave decided that it was time to move to some proper retail premises. Cyclesense moved to Tadcaster, the home of Samuel Smiths, John Smiths and Coors breweries. Our first proper shop was 500sqft and at the time had more than enough room for Dave. Back then we stocked Dawes Cycles and Muddy Fox. Business blossomed in Tadcaster and soon Paul Stainthorpe (Dave's oldest) joined the business. The years flew by and during this time Dave and Paul built a loyal customer base as word got round of their friendly and knowledgeable little shop.

Cyclesense moved to its current location on Tadcaster High Street in 2001. To date, Cyclesense is the biggest independent retailer in Tadcaster, with 3000 sqft of sales area and a large (free) car park at the rear of the shop.

In 2004 Dave's hard work was rewarded in the form of a trophy. Cyclesense entered the Selby Business Awards and won the Best Established Business Award.

In 2006 the time came to expand even further. This time it was Dave's youngest son John Stainthorpe leading the way for expansion. Cyclesense is the U.K distributor for the original and best balance bike; LIKEaBIKE. John had been running LIKEaBIKE uk from the Tadcaster store but had long since run out of space for his ever increasing range.

John searched locally for a unit and came across a Unit 5 miles from Tadcaster on the Thorp Arch Estate. The estate was an ammunition factory during world war II and has a war time feel to it which is different to normal industrial estates and it is set in a nice country setting close to the Market town of Wetherby. At the time the warehouse had a small showroom buried inside and was in a relatively quiet part of the estate. A month after John moved in a children's play centre opened opposite. This was very lucky as the LIKEaBIKE range is for kids!

John transformed the showroom to showcase the LIKEaBIKE range in all its glory. We moved all the larger/heavier items such as adult tricycles and electric bikes to Thorp Arch as well.

In 2010 the time came to enhance the warehouse even further by building a purpose built showroom. The showroom was hidden in the middle so we decided to move it to the front so that the entrance would face the entrance to Crazy Tykes. It was a great idea and it ensured we get much more passing trade from the families visiting the play area.

The showroom was bright and spacious with enough room to try out the balance bikes and check out anything that you might pay us a visit to see. We also have hire business which has gradually increased in popularity and now we offer a great range of bikes for hire, including road bike and electric bikes. To find out more visit the BIKE HIRE PAGE.

On January 15th 2015 we opened our new store in Tadcaster just around the corner from the High street shop at 2 - 4 Westgate, Tadcaster, LS24 9AB.. Just like the Thorp Arch shop it is bright and spacious with enough space for kids to try out the bikes.

At Cyclesense we stock a tremendous range of bikes that often astounds visitors to the shop. There really is a bike to suit all riders. Mountain, Road, Sports-Hybrids, Commuting, Touring, Tandems, Trikes, Unicycles and all sizes of children's bikes.

Cyclesense is a real family business. All the Stainthorpes are involved Big Dave (dad), Sue (mum),Paul (oldest Son) and John (Youngest) and Natasha (John' wife). Not everyone that works at Cyclesense is family. We also have some people here that are not Stainthorpes.

We have a busy workshop with an excellent mechanic with lots of experience and Cytech qualifications who can repair any bicycle worth fixing.

At Cyclesense we strive to provide the best quality service there is and you can rest assured that we will try our hardest to ensure that you get what you need to make your cycling more enjoyable and rewarding.
