The IXON has often won comparative product tests as the winner, including the highly-regarded Stiftung Warentest (independent German product and services testing foundation) tests.

The most remarkable technical feature is the IQ-TEC reflector designed by Busch & Mueller. This distinctive solution, with an integrated cooling system uses a high-powered LED that is used as an indirect light source. For this reason, there is no bulb or diode to be seen in the centre of the reflector.

Busch & Müller aptly describe this as "nothing but light". The useable lighted area of the IXON IQ is uniformly illuminated to a maximum extent and twice as wide as with conventional reflectors.

The IXON IQ only requires 2,100mAh rechargeable batteries (included), to illuminate for five hours at 40 lux. The 40 lux are measured at 10 metres from the headlight, not just directly in front. With the Eco/city mode IXON can be switched down to the 10 lux output required by the StVZO for a full 20 hours.
