But how does it work?

Your company has to join cyclescheme in order to save. The savings themselves are made possible thanks to two new government initiated tax breaks. Once you have joined, the employee will save VAT on the purchase of the bike, plus cuts on their National Insurance contributions. Depending on the tax band, when combined with a VAT exemption at 17.5%, savings are often as much as 50%*! In turn because the employee pays less NI on their earnings, the employer contributes less NI for that employee. Simple, but very effective!
