Affiliated Cycling Clubs

We have very close ties with four local cycling clubs.

Cyclesense is proud to sponsor the Cyclesense Time trial league which takes place every Thursday evening throughout the summer months. All the members of these clubs have the opportunity to race against time to win some great prizes at the end of the season.

Seacroft Wheelers

Seacroft Wheelers was formed in 1975 to cover a gap in the local club scene. While experienced riders were welcomed by most established clubs very few were willing to take on new and, especially, younger cyclists.
Founder members were current club president Barbara Penrice, one man and five boys aged between 10 and 15, with membership blossoming to over 50 in just two months. Although the emphasis was on clubruns and enjoyment of cycling, racing was soon introduced and of the five young founder members three went on to international status.
Like all clubs it has experienced ups and downs but through the 1980s it became one of the foremost clubs in Yorkshire with a large membership, well supported runs and several top racing men and women in all aspects of the sport.

There are Club Runs most Sundays throughout the year. Distances are shortest in the winter months averaging about 40 miles at a steady pace suitable for all riders. In the summer the runs are more wide ranging and can top 60 miles, again the speed is tailored to all members of the group so that nobody is left behind.
There is usually a stop or two at a café, or occasionally a suitable pub, where cyclists are welcome and in which youngsters are allowed. Runs go to many and varied destinations seeking out some of the more interesting and scenic areas of Yorkshire with the emphasis firmly on quieter lanes and country roads avoiding heavy traffic.

Garforth Wheelers

Garforth Wheelers was established in 1986 and since then the number of members has gradually increased, there being at present some 25 participating members.

The wheelers are based at Garforth Squash and Leisure centre on Ninelands Lane, Garforth and undertake various activities and rides throughout the year, both in the UK and abroad.

The wheelers have a club ride every Sunday and a number of training and competitive time trials at various dates throughout the year, which caters for all skill levels.

Club rides every Sunday - meet at Garforth squash club 8.30am.

Wetherby Wheelers

Wetherby Wheelers was established in 1985, and from its inception, the club has maintained its aim of providing the core activity of regular Sunday clubruns throughout the year. For the most part, these start from the Town Hall in Wetherby and take in many of the less busy routes in the surrounding area.

Full details of the intended destinations are on the runs card on display on the external noticeboard at the Town Hall, and in the attached runs list. All runs include a lunch stop, usually at a café used to dealing with hungry cyclists and we always ensure new riders are accompanied at all times by experienced club members.

As well as the regular Sunday runs, there is an impromptu run every Thursday for more experienced riders. Club members also take part in competition, both in time trials (including the Cyclesense Time Trial League series of events) and road races and also in the expanding area of organised sportive rides. Over the last few years members have also organised touring weeks abroad, making use of relatively cheap flights to Italy and staying in hotels geared up to the needs of cyclists.

If you want to find out further information about us, please contact any member of the Committee, details of which are on the associated runs list.

Clifton C.C

Clifton Cycling Club is a "grass roots" cycling club with over 100 years of history. Growing strongly with more than a hundred members of all ages, it is the largest - and known as one of the liveliest - clubs in the York area.

Clifton are active in most aspects of cycling from club social and training rides to touring, mountain biking, Audax and sportives. At the competitive end of things they organise and participate in road racing and time trialling. Their aim is simply to encourage people to get out and ride, and enjoy the fantastic countryside and challenges that Yorkshire has to offer. There's no need to worry about your ability - once you can handle 30 miles on the flat in a couple of hours or so go and join them and they willl take you on from there!

On the roads there are usually at least two - sometimes four - Saturday rides, regular Sunday clubruns and - when there's daylight in the evenings - a variety of weekday evening training rides. Off road there's a monthly Club Run, regular trips away and an active membership organising lots of ad-hoc riding. Have a look at the clifton C.C website Click here where you'll find contact details, along with information about up-coming rides and the best way to have a go.
